If you are traveling on Thanksgiving weekend, make sure you plan well ahead. While vacation destinations should be uncrowded, getting there will be a chore unless you map out your plan well in advance. Thanksgiving is a crowded travel week, so try to fly on off-peak days and book your resort package in an off-peak destination.

Europe is a great destination during Thanksgiving week, since that's usually a slow season there. You can spend your Thanksgiving in Paris, on a beach in Hawaii or even where Thanksgiving began in New England.

If you are spending Thanksgiving with family, be prepared for delays at every turn. Pack lightly so you don't have to check your luggage at the air port and allow for plenty of time to check through security. Bring your own food if you don't want to hassle with the lines or if your airline doesn't provide a meal. You may even decide to drive to your family's house. If you do, be sure to have your vehicle checked out by a mechanic before you leave. There would be nothing worse than finding yourself stranded on a lonely road right before Thanksgiving.
